I am camping out….
..on the couch watching the Olympics. I am not alone. Our whole family is sitting on the edge of their seats as we cheer on Team USA. All this cheering and yelling requires a lot of energy, so we need to have the proper snackage.
I love snack mixes and snacking in general. Whether it’s savory or sweet, count me in. And when it is both sweet and salty, well that is like the best of everything. This recipe is adapted from one I found on the food.com website. What makes this snack mix different from so many others I have seen is the addition of the cinnamon….sooo good.
So whatever your favorite Olympic sport is to
play watch – swimming, gymnastics, cycling, or running, make sure you have a big bowl of this sweet and salty snack mix around.
What is your favorite Olympic sport to watch?
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1 teaspoon cinnamon
4 cups Crispix cereal
1 ½ cups Cheerios – plain or multi-grain
1 cup small pretzels
1 cup salted peanuts
1 cup M&M’s – plain
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine Crixpix, Cheerios and pretzels in a large bowl and set aside. Melt the butter in a small saucepan on low heat. Add the brown sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon to the melted butter. Cook until butter bubbles slightly. Pour over the dry mixture and stir until the mixture is coated evenly. Pour onto a baking sheet lined with silpat or parchment paper. Bake for 8 minutes. Stir mixture and then bake for another 6 – 8 minutes. Remove from oven and spread out onto aluminum foil to cool. Once the mixture is cool, break up any pieces as necessary. Add the peanuts and M&Ms. Makes about 8 cups. Store in an air-tight container.
