Spring Break Challenge: Chocolate Chip Oreo Cookies

by sous-chef on March 19, 2011

From the moment I first saw Picky Palate’s Famous Oreo Stuffed Chocolate Chip Cookies, I could not rid myself of its intrigue. I knew I had to conquer these cookies.

Unfortunately, the first time I saw the recipe was a few weeks ago and I was stuck at college with little resources to bake these mammoth cookies. So I waited and waited until finally Spring Break showed up and I was back at home in the kitchen with flour, sugar and butter fully stocked and ready to go.

I used Picky Palate’s chocolate chip cookie recipe instead of my usual favorite, wanting to experience this recipe to its fullest potential. Let me just say that there is nothing small about this recipe – everything is in mass quantities. I had to recheck the recipe many times just to make sure I was putting in the right amounts of ingredients, for fear I would mess it up. Luckily, things turned out just fine, and I slid the giant dough balls into the oven.

The results were some of the most amusing reactions I’ve ever received from my baking. My own reaction was of stunned amazement, as I couldn’t get over the behemoth size of the cookie until I dunked it in cold milk and took that first bite – what decadence! My brothers’ eyes widened comically when I served the cookies to them. The biggest shock of the night was that no one could eat more than one cookie; finally I would have a batch to save throughout the course of the week. Thank you, Picky Palate, for giving me a cookie recipe to satisfy even the hungriest of teenage brothers!

For the original recipe, go to Picky Palate’s blog and whip up a batch of your own….I dare you.
