Spicy Thai Peanut Sauce

I have heard people say that the difference between preparing foods at home and dining out is often the amazing sauces created in the restaurants. If you can create those sauces at home, you never have to eat out again. Well, I think that while a lot of that might be true, sometimes I eat out just because I don’t want to have to clean my kitchen!

I have a friend who makes a spicy peanut sauce and whenever she serves it, I get so excited. I have said for years that I was going to make it myself, but I just never seemed to make that happen, until now. I don’t know what she puts in her recipe, but I combined several recipes from on-line sources that I thought would create the same peanuty, spicy flavor. The main inspiration came from a recipe posted on the www.food.com website.

Just mix up the sauce and pour over pasta. My choice would be angel hair and throw in some green onions, cilantro and grated carrots for a delicious vegetarian meal. This is also a great dip for chicken. This is how my friend prepares it. Yum!  Or just eat it with a spoon. I’m not sayin’ where I got that idea from! I think this sauce is better if you make it ahead of time and let it set in the refrigerator for a few hours.

Some recipes said to add cilantro to the sauce and while I didn’t put it in the recipe, I added it in with the pasta. This is super easy to make. Just open a bunch of bottles and mix! If you want something a bit more technical than that, refer to the recipe below.

Ingredients:

1 cup smooth peanut butter
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup oriental sesame oil
3 tablespoons rice vinegar
½ teaspoon powdered ginger
2 tablespoons garlic, chopped
1 teaspoon hot sauce
1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
4 tablespoons water

Mix ingredients together and pour in a blender. Blend at a high speed until smooth. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Peanut sauce is one of my all time favorites! I have a similar recipe but mine’s without hoisin. Next time I’ll try it with.

I have a lot to pair this sauce with … grilled chicken, rice noodles, spring rolls…endless list. And to top it all of I have a really dependable homemade peanut butter recipe that I do not ran out of. This sauce will be real hit with anything. Thanks for sharing.
