Kitchenarian Project 50 – Silpat

by kitchenarian on November 23, 2010

While I do not consider myself a baker per se, there are a few baking tools that I consider a must have in the kitchen. Silpat is a silicone mat that is used to create a non-stick surface in your baking sheet pans. It replaces the need for parchment paper or greasing your pans. I consider this one of the most essential baking tools to own.

I wouldn’t bake cookies without using silpat. Your cookies come out great every time – chewy in the center and never too brown on the bottom. Biscuits are perfect when baked on silpat. This is also a great item to put on the bottom of your roasting pan when roasting your turkey. You will have more juices in the pan in which to make your gravy with.  Click here to check out frequently asked questions about silpat.

I have 2 silpat sheets in my kitchen and at times I wish I had more. Silpat definitely makes the Kitchenarian’s Top 50  List.

This is a great thing to know! My fiancee and I are registering right now, and guess what’s going on the list!

I love my cookies baked on a silpat but it cannot be used for the Patriarch who likes hard, brown cookies.

I hear you sister! How is it that our father likes hard cookies? They are more like biscotti than a cookie. We love him in spite of his cookie preferences.
