It’s Beginning To Smell A Lot Like Christmas

by sous-chef on December 4, 2010

Yes, it is December now! I am still off at school but am looking forward to a nice break back home in under two weeks. Despite the looming exam schedule, my roommate and I found the time to decorate our room with lights this week. The cheer of the season is beginning to spread.

Now that it is the last month of the year, our family household will be whipping up plenty of seasonal meals and treats, and I know that the Kitchenarian will be busy taking pictures and trying new recipes to share here.Visions of peppermint bark, homemade marshmallows, and upside-down french toast already dance in my head! Many of our family traditions revolve around food during the Christmas season, which will be elaborated upon in detail when we get closer to the big day.

Instead, I am still away from home and dreaming of food. I can hear the holiday music playing in the background of our kitchen, and above it the whirring of the food processor as the red and white peppermint blends to a sugary pink. Then, lifting the lid, that cool smell of peppermint as it’s sprinkled on top the molten layers of chocolate spread out on the counter. It’s a beautiful masterpiece of marbled cream and brown, accented with the pink peppermint. The hustle of the kitchen is softened by the merriment we find in being together and cooking together, shuffling through the powdered sugar left on the floor as we stack more and more dirty dishes in the sink.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and I cannot wait to share it all with my family and with all of you readers here!

Kitchenarian, love the name btw! One can never go wrong with a rich, decadent brownie; filled with high quality chocolate and espresso. You are a woman after my heart, with all that high-end equipment.
