Grilling In The Rain…And Recipes

by kitchenarian on July 9, 2011

The carefree days of summer are winding down. What? Many of you must think I am crazy since it is only the second week of July, but summer seems to be (almost) over in our household.

Yes, we are grilling in the rain! (I snapped this picture from the kitchen window.) Last night we got a classic summer soaker about the time we wanted to grill pizza. Since Sous Chef heads back to school tomorrow and she wanted grilled pizza for dinner… well, we (not really we, but you get the idea) grilled in the pouring down rain.

Sous Chef will spend three weeks back at school taking a class in preparation for her study abroad program that begins in August. My oldest son started Fire Academy this week – a 6 month training class for volunteer firefighters. My youngest son, you remember Cookie-Meister, seems to be the only one left enjoying the lazy days of summer. He is heading off to camp tomorrow. There is lots of packing going on around here at the moment which explains why I am not in the kitchen whipping up new dishes and writing about them.

I am working on some posts for next week which I am very excited about. Things will be quieter in another 24 hours or so, but you know I am always looking to see what my foodie friends are up to, so here are a few great looking recipes for you that I have recently spotted on the web:

Fresh Peach with Prosciutto, Ricotta, and Honey Drizzled Crostini – Teenie Cakes

Chorizo Stuffed Chiles – Spicie Foodie

Pesto, Spinach and Tomatoes Over Artisan Pasta – The Fresh Fridge

Glazed Beet Doughnuts – A Good Appetite

Homemade Cheez-Its – In Katrina’s Kitchen

Tiramisu Ice Cream – Diethood

Oreo Brownies – My Baking Addiction

Banana Cupcakes With Peanut Butter Caramel Frosting – Baking with Basil

My blog yesterday was grilling in the rain, too! Except mine turned into a comedy of errors and finished as the HINDENBURG! Looking forward to your next post!

It rains so much here in Seattle that is why I have yet to purchase a grill. 🙂 I told my husband the same thing the other day that summer seemed to be flying by as my son is headed to camp on monday it will be just me and the 1 year old hanging out.

A steady summer rain would be very welcome here. Since the outdoor heat has kept us indoors, we would probably be outside enjoy it if it rained.

I cannot believe that summer is 1/2 over or more so for some. I don’t want to think about it. I hope the sous chef appreciated the pizza. My mom always did things like this and oh how I miss it.

Wow, no wonder summer seems to be winding down to you, with the oldest two headed off to their activities. To me it seems just to be getting started…June was a bust weather-wise, but it’s hot and summery now!

Grilling steaks on Christmas Eve is my husbands family tradition. In WI that can be horrible weather!! Hope you enjoy your quiet house, even though I am sure you will miss your kids!
