Did someone say cookie dough?
Throughout my life, I have been caught many times with my fingers in the bowl of cookie dough. In the 70’s and 80’s it was a guiltless pleasure. We didn’t know any better and it was almost expected when you made a batch of chocolate chip cookie dough. I can’t remember the exact date when it was announced that consuming raw eggs, and cookie dough, was harmful to your health. Really? Who would say that? What a mean person! So, in the quest for good health, I stopped for a while, but you know what they say about addictions, they are hard to break. Then came the 90’s. I had children in the 90’s. So, of course, we never ate raw cookie dough. I had become a Mom and that meant safety came first. But as the years have passed and the children have grown, we have all been found with our fingers in the mixing bowl. Even though I remind my children that consuming raw eggs can be bad for you, they have assured me that it is worth the risk. I find it difficult to argue with them.
So imagine my joy when I heard that Tennessee blogger, Lindsay Landis, was releasing a cookbook filled with recipes all about chocolate chip cookie dough. You might already know Lindsay from her popular food blog, Love and Olive Oil. Well, lucky for me that Quirk Books contacted me and offered to send me a copy of her cookbook, The Cookie Dough Lover’s Cookbook.
I must confess that I could have (should have) actually posted a recipe a few weeks back. Sous Chef made Lindsay’s eggless cookie dough , but before we could even think about taking pictures or getting creative with it, it was all eaten up. (Should I add here that we have already made TWO batches of the delicious cookie dough?) Now, who can blame my children? They didn’t grow up eating raw cookie dough, but with this new eggless version, they have been trying to make up for lost time! Since Sous Chef has now left to go back to her summer internship, I am taking over the cookie dough project.
This book has been such a great addition to my cookbook collection. From the cookbook design, to the mouth-watering pictures, to the unique, sweet recipes, this book is fun, creative, and delicious. Have you ever seen Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Bread Pudding before? How about Malted Cookie Dough Milkshakes, Cookie Dough Stuffed French Toast or Cookie Dough Wontons with Chocolate Dipping Sauce? See what I mean. I could go on and on, but honestly, I just think you need to get the book. If you have ever stuck your finger in the mixing bowl and eaten cookie dough, then this cookbook is definitely for you.
After reading Lindsay’s cookbook from cover to cover, I was reminded of a sweet dip that my aunt used to bring to holiday gatherings. I hadn’t thought about that recipe in years. I looked around and dug up the old recipe and then compared it to Lindsay’s eggless cookie dough. I made some tweaks and changes and came up with chocolate chip cookie dough dip. Oh, and I also made some homemade chocolate graham crackers to eat with it. This recipe for cookie dough dip is not from Lindsay’s book, but rather an inspired recipe from her wonderful cookbook.
How would you like a copy of The Cookie Dough Lover’s Cookbook? Thanks to Quirk Books for sponsoring this giveaway. They did send me a copy of the book to review, but all the opinions written and oohs and ahhs are all my own! You can read more about the giveaway at the bottom of the post.
