Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Dip with Homemade Chocolate Graham Crackers Plus A Sweet Giveaway!

by kitchenarian on June 30, 2012

Did someone say cookie dough?

Throughout my life, I have been caught many times with my fingers in the bowl of cookie dough. In the 70’s and 80’s it was a guiltless pleasure. We didn’t know any better and it was almost expected when you made a batch of chocolate chip cookie dough. I can’t remember the exact date when it was announced that consuming raw eggs, and cookie dough, was harmful to your health. Really? Who would say that? What a mean person! So, in the quest for good health, I stopped for a while, but you know what they say about addictions, they are hard to break. Then came the 90’s. I had children in the 90’s. So, of course, we never ate raw cookie dough. I had become a Mom and that meant safety came first. But as the years have passed and the children have grown, we have all been found with our fingers in the mixing bowl. Even though I remind my children that consuming raw eggs can be bad for you, they have assured me that it is worth the risk. I find it difficult to argue with them.

So imagine my joy when I heard that Tennessee blogger, Lindsay Landis, was releasing a cookbook filled with recipes all about chocolate chip cookie dough. You might already know Lindsay from her popular food blog, Love and Olive Oil. Well, lucky for me that Quirk Books contacted me and offered to send me a copy of her cookbook, The Cookie Dough Lover’s Cookbook.

I must confess that I could have (should have) actually posted a recipe a few weeks back. Sous Chef made Lindsay’s eggless cookie dough , but before we could even think about taking pictures or getting creative with it, it was all eaten up. (Should I add here that we have already made TWO batches of the delicious cookie dough?) Now, who can blame my children? They didn’t grow up eating raw cookie dough, but with this new eggless version, they have been trying to make up for lost time! Since Sous Chef has now left to go back to her summer internship, I am taking over the cookie dough project.

This book has been such a great addition to my cookbook collection. From the cookbook design, to the mouth-watering pictures, to the unique, sweet recipes, this book is fun, creative, and delicious. Have you ever seen Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Bread Pudding before? How about Malted Cookie Dough Milkshakes, Cookie Dough Stuffed French Toast or Cookie Dough Wontons with Chocolate Dipping Sauce? See what I mean. I could go on and on, but honestly, I just think you need to get the book. If you have ever stuck your finger in the mixing bowl and eaten cookie dough, then this cookbook is definitely for you.

After reading Lindsay’s cookbook from cover to cover, I was reminded of a sweet dip that my aunt used to bring to holiday gatherings. I hadn’t thought about that recipe in years. I looked around and dug up the old recipe and then compared it to Lindsay’s eggless cookie dough. I made some tweaks and changes and came up with chocolate chip cookie dough dip. Oh, and I also made some homemade chocolate graham crackers to eat with it. This recipe for cookie dough dip is not from Lindsay’s book, but rather an inspired recipe from her wonderful cookbook.

How would you like a copy of The Cookie Dough Lover’s Cookbook? Thanks to Quirk Books for sponsoring this giveaway. They did send me a copy of the book to review, but all the opinions written and oohs and ahhs are all my own! You can read more about the giveaway at the bottom of the post.

Ingredients:

½ cup (1 stick) butter, softened
¼ cup confectioner’s sugar
½ cup brown sugar
½ teaspoon vanilla
¼ teaspoon salt
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
¼ cup flour
1 cup chocolate chips

Beat together the butter and sugars until fluffy. Add vanilla, salt, and cream cheese. Stir in the flour with a spoon and then add the chocolate chips to blend. Refrigerate. Take out of refrigerator and let sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before serving. Stir well and put in small bowl. Serve with chocolate graham crackers.

I never let my kids eat cookie dough, but I still do to this day. I swear I must have an immunity to salmonella since I’ve never gotten sick over many decades of sampling. It goes way back to making up cookie doughs with a girlfriend in elementary school…mainly so we could eat it, not bake it 🙂

Excellent give away. I add chopped Heath bars to my cookie dough dip…so yummy!

Also, my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe is supposed to make 60 cookies. When I’ve finished baking, I usually end up with just 45… (can’t help myself when it comes to cookie dough 🙂

looking forward to the graham cracker recipe. The kids would go nuts for this dip. Anything with cream cheese is a winner for me.

A favorite dessert at my house is chocolate chip cookies. My husband has been known to scoop directly from the bowl, rather than wait for cookies to be baked. This is a perfect dessert for my favorite cookie monster!

I blissfully ate cookie dough when baking as a child until my step mother informed me it would give me worms! Ick! Guess that was the method of the day to get kids to stop eating raw dough. I will confess I’m now over the horror and have resumed!

This is such an inspired little book and I love your feature of the ‘dip’. Complete fun.

Not entering the giveaway but wanted to pop by to say ‘hi’ when seeing your new post and to wish you happy summer!

I prefer other cookie dough than the popular chocolate chip (the best thing about a chocolate chip cookie is the melty chip). However, a chocolate chip cookie sandwich with peanut butter cookie dough…..yum. Or a spoonful of snicker doodle dough….sigh. :). I am looking forward to trying your dip!!

Oh I love cookie dough. In high school I worked in a bakery and it was a rule to taste the cookie dough before baking. Neeedless to say I went home sick to my stomach of the stuff most nights. Never stopped me from starting all over the next day though.

I make double batches of all cookies that I bake and freeze one batch-well, actually it’s 3/4 of a batch by the time I eat some cookie dough!

There is nothing better than cookie dough! I must admit that bad for you or not I still stick my fingers in the bowl. That is until I got pregnant and absolutely couldn’t take the risk! This dip is perfect. Cannot wait to try it! And, that cookbook is heaven sent.

My husband is the cookie monster in our house, so the bowl is always licked clean before I can get to it. You can’t go wrong with a good old chocolate chip cookie.

I remember having my cookie dough sitting on the cookie tray all ready to go in the oven when there was silence in the house. Silence always means someone is up to something! Sure enough, there was my Black Lab with both paws on the counter eating up my dough!

I will continue to eat raw chocolate chip cookie dough until the last batch I make! I have way less guilt now that I use farm-fresh eggs though! Nevertheless, farm-fresh eggs or not, I would still eat it! (How can you NOT?!?) I try to stick some quick oats in it, from time to time, but it barely slows me down! There’s something irresistible about butter and brown sugar and vanilla and chocolate chips…..so I don’t bother to fight it anymore!
